Portfolio Development for High School Students

High School students serious about art may enroll in the Portfolio Development course designed on building and improving drawing and other skills for 10th, 11th and 12th graders. Drawing skills are an important measure for art college admission and students in this class are provided critical individual attention as they work from still life and figure (no nude models) and create a self portrait.

Instruction covers line quality and gesture drawing, contour line drawing, negative space exercises, proportion and measuring, texture and value. Students will explore a variety of media including conte, charcoal, ink, gesso and collage. All students receive a final review of their work and additional guidance on how to build a strong portfolio. The School of Art also offers an Advanced Portfolio Development course for those who seek to continue to build their skills.
