What to Bring & What to Leave Home

Welcome to the PrattMWP Residence Halls.
This web page will offer you some important information about things to bring to school and things to leave at home.
WHAT'S PROVIDED?
Your room is equipped with the following:
- Two garbage pails for the kitchen (one for garbage, one for recyclable items)
- Computer desk, chair, and Internet outlet for EACH student. You will need an Ethernet cable.
- Cable television outlet in living room/common space
- A shower curtain (students must replace as needed)
- One 2 Person Couch
- One 1 Person Lounge Chair (Plant Street Only)
- Refrigerator
- Microwave
- Bunk bed-bed sheet size “twin extra long”
- One wardrobe/closet for each student
- One 3 drawer dresser for each student
You may bring items such as lamps, kitchen utensils, linen, glassware, and bathroom accessories.
Students should contact their roommate(s) to discuss which items each of you will bring.
Please remember that extra furniture, some electrical appliances, and musical instruments that require an amplifier are not permitted in the residence halls. Refer to your Residence Hall License for further clarification or call the Student Life Office for more information at 315-797-0000 ext. 2183 or email.
Please remember that check-in for freshman is Thursday, August 25, 2011 from 10am-1pm.

Things to Leave at Home
- Pets are not allowed because of health regulations (the exception being fish, max 10 gallon tank.)
- Hanging fishnets, fabrics/tapestries, beads, or any other item from the ceiling or walls is not allowed because of New York State fire safety policies. Posters and pictures are permitted so long as they do not cover more than 50% of the wall space of the room. Posters cannot be hung on the ceiling.
- Hot plates, heating coils, electric frying pans, space heaters, broilers, griddles, toasters/ toaster ovens, and other open-coil cooking appliances, incense and incense burners, halogen lamps, candles, and other open-flame items are not allowed due to New York State fire safety policies.
- Firearms, fireworks, and dangerous weapons are also not permitted in the halls. This can include pocket knives. If you are unsure please call for clarification.
- Lofts are not permitted in the rooms for various reasons including fire regulations.
- Cinder blocks are not allowed because they can damage the room floors.
- Room air conditioners are not permitted in the residence halls.
- Musical instruments that require amplifiers.
- Laundry Money; all of our laundry machines are brand new, high efficiency and coin free.
Things to Bring to School
- Extra Long twin-sized bed sheets, blankets/comforter and at least one pillow. Clothes appropriate for seasons such as boots, a winter coat, scarf, gloves, and an umbrella.
- A UL listed multiple outlet plug/power strip with a built-in surge protector (or two).
- A cell phone. Students are asked to provide cell phone numbers to the PrattMWP Registrar and Residential
- Life Office. Cell phones are part of our Emergency Communication Plan.
- A cable ready television model that can receive more than 55 stations.
- A 16-to 24-foot coaxial cord for your TV. All rooms receive FREE cable service.
- A personal computer/laptop (with LAN/ Ethernet card).
- An Ethernet cable for internet access. There is a network connection for each student.
- Headphones in case you bring a stereo/television.
- A small stereo or portable CD player, iPod, MP3 Player.
- Vacuum Cleaner/ Swiffer Floor Sweeper/Broom and Dust Pan.
- A personal first aid kit with Band-Aids.
- Microwave safe dishes and utensils.
- Dishcloths, dishtowels, dish detergent.
- UL Approved desk lamp with a compact fluorescent light bulb, no halogen lamps.
- Bathroom supplies.
- Towels and washcloths.
- Hangers for your clothes.
- A laundry basket or bag.
- Laundry detergent for high efficiency machines.
- An electric fan.
- An alarm clock.
- Blue Painter’s tape for hanging posters, no duct tape.
- A dry erase message board to hang on your room door.
- Quarters for campus vending machines.
- Your creativity and openness to new experiences.
