What to Bring and What to Leave Home

Things to Bring to School
  • Extra Long twin-sized bed sheets, blankets and at least one pillow
  • Clothes for all seasons such as boots, a winter coat, scarf, gloves, and an umbrella.
  • A UL listed multiple outlet plug (power strip) with a built-in surge protector (or two), these are the only type of extension cords permitted
  • A telephone with an extra long cord. On-campus telephone service is provided in every room. Cordless phones may be used, but in a residential environment, others may be listening. If you go cordless, buy one that continuously scrambles the frequency.
  • A cable ready television model that can receive more than 55 stations.
  • A 16- to 24-foot coaxial cord for your TV. All rooms receive FREE cable service.
  • A personal computer (with LAN/ Ethernet card) and an Ethernet cable for internet access. There is a network connection for each student. All wireless connections must be approved through the IT department
  • Headphones
  • A small stereo, CD player, or MP3 Player/ iPod
  • Vacuum Cleaner and cleaning supplies, it is your responsibility to keep your apartment clean
  • Band-Aids
  • A small sewing kit
  • Dishes and cooking utensils that are microwave-safe. Each suite is equipped with a microwave.
  • Dishcloths, dishtowels, dish detergent
  • Desk supplies
  • Stationery, stamps, envelopes, and an address book
  • Bathroom supplies and you may wish to bring a decorative shower curtain and bath rugs.
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Hangers for your clothes
  • A laundry basket or bag
  • An electric fan
  • An alarm clock
  • Fun tack, masking tape, or "painter's tape" for hanging posters/pictures
  • Rolls of quarters for vending machines, washers, and dryers
  • A memo board
Things to Leave at Home
  • Pets are not allowed because of health regulations (the exception being pet fish, max 10 gallon tank.)
  • Hanging fishnets, posters, or any other item from the ceiling are not allowed because of fire safety policies.
  • Hot plates, heating coils, electric frying pans, space heaters, broilers, griddles, toasters, toaster ovens, and other open-coil cooking appliances, incense and incense burners, halogen lamps, candles, and other open-flame items are not allowed due to fire safety policies.
  • Firearms, fireworks, and dangerous weapons are also not permitted in the halls.
  • Lofts are not permitted in the rooms for various reasons including fire regulations.
  • Cinder blocks are not allowed because they can damage the room floors.
  • Room air conditioners are not permitted in the residence halls.
  • No decorative lighting, such as Christmas lights, lava lamps, paper lanterns, neons etc.
  • No extension cords other than surge protectors/ power strips
  • No window coverings or curtains.
