Laura Watt’s paintings and drawings are an investigation into pattern, repetition and intersecting structures. For Watt, pattern and repetition are a means of condensing information and experiences, of compressing narrative and emotion. In brightly hued paintings, she employs simple geometric forms and dense overlapping grids or nets to explore how abstraction can express spiritual or cosmological states. In her paintings, Watt uses line, point , shape and extension to explore the collapse between exterior and interior space.

Watt received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Bennington College and her Masters of Fine Art from Yale University. Her work is represented by McKenzie Fine Art in NYC. Watt has exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at Franklin and Marshall College, St. Joseph’s University , Locks Gallery in Philadelphia and at Choate Rosemary Hall as part of the group Overflow.

Watt will have drawings in the upcoming show Colored Pencil at McKenzie Fine Art.
