Congratulations to PrattMWP students Maddison Manente and Amber Lim. The GDUSA Students To Watch feature has become a tradition that resonates and renews: rising talent gets recognized and the professional creative community gets refreshed. In the next edition of GDUSA magazine, the wonderful institutions that nurture these students will themselves be in the spotlight.

Maddison Manente

Artist Bio: Currently a sophomore Communication Design student at PrattMWP College of Art and Design, Maddison Manente has expressed a passion for art and design ever since she was a small child. Starting with imaginative chalk drawing on the driveway as a kid, she progressed through extra curricular art classes in elementary school to working with oil paint as a middle and high school student. Prior to attending college, Maddison experimented with graphic design and illustration in her free time, and designed an agenda book for herself and her friends. Maddison enjoys creating stories and expressing them through her artwork as well as incorporating illustration into her designs and vice versa. She is working on a variety of personal projects including experimenting with animation and creating a story-based point-and-click game from scratch. As of now, she is teaching herself how to code, animate, and create the game, but she hopes to learn more about game design, both physical and digital, in the future.

Amber Lim

Artist bio: I don't have a design philosophy I stick to, as I flow to where the project needs me to go, and I don't like definitions where definitions are not necessary, but through time, I observed that some components that naturally make up my design process include sustainability (thanks to my dad who hated littering with fervor), capturing the essence of something (thanks to my appreciation for Chinese characters), and smart mechanism or wow factors (either hidden or glaringly obvious) whenever suitable.

I’m excited at the thought of starting a “portable” design studio of great, kind, and funny creatives (I love a laughter-filled collaboration) but always bring myself back to the present because I have more important things to do now, such as homework for tomorrow, which might contribute to that dream. I'm also not afraid to make gross things (I find funny), occasionally, because that’s the only outlet for things that I can’t stop from popping into my head.

I absolutely hate a laggy computer and my nightmare is when InDesign shows me ERROR CODE 5. Aside from those, I love to eat Asian food, swim, read, screen print, watch things, and appreciating the water I drink.
